Case Study: Scalable Sorting at flaconi

The task with which flaconi approached GEBHARDT sounded like a challenge: Within a very short time, the newly developed sorting technology from GEBHARDT was to be implemented together with a large packaging area and the package conveyor technology with connection to the material flow system. In doing so, the strong growth had to be planned into the intralogistics concept and thus offer a flexible and scalable solution. The scope of supply and services of the GEBHARDT products consists of conveyor technology, the new GEBHARDT SpeedSorter^® loop crossbelt sorter, the GEBHARDT StoreWare MFS and the PLC control system.

The project was implemented in just nine months. Since then, the fast-growing retailer has been able to respond flexibly and quickly to customer-related orders. On the partial area of approx. 9,000 m², of the total 28,000m² fulfillment center, essentially a large packaging area was created, which includes 305 meters of parcel conveyor technology and automated sorting technology, as well as 274 workstations, in order to pick and ship the orders according to the customer.

The center of the plant is the GEBHARDT SpeedSorter^® loop with an overall length of 136 meters. In combination with the various system components goods receiving, warehouse, order picking and shipping, it enables a continuous material flow concept. Until now, the various process steps had to be linked by several parallel conveyor lines. With the implementation of the sorter, flaconi achieves enormous business advantages, as both the internal material flow is optimized and the available space is used effectively.
