Efficiently Driven to Sophisticated Logistics

SEW Eurodrive

To meet the continuously growing demand for electronic components, SEW-EURODRIVE decided to build a new plant at their Bruchsal location. In addition to updating its site with state-of-the-art production technology, it also implemented a sophisticated logistics concept with modular production islands.  Together with GEBHARDT, the most modern electronics plant in Europe was realised.

During the on-site project, GEBHARDT designed an automated pallet warehouse - the GEBHARDT Omnipallet - featuring a multi-level shuttle system for an automated miniload warehouse.

The Task

The task with which SEW approached GEBHARDT sounded like a challenge: They were looking for a partner who could implement a modern, modular, flexible, and powerful warehouse technology with SEW components that would also fit optimally into the specified IT structure and consider the latest Industry 4.0 strategies. At the same time, the solution was to showcase the latest SEW technology in conveyor and warehouse technology and thus also be able to be used as a showroom.

Fully automated for more performance

On-site, GEBHARDT realised an automatic miniload warehouse and a pallet warehouse for production supply. The miniload warehouse is designed as a multi-level shuttle (MLS) warehouse and directly connects to receiving, picking, and shipping goods.

The pallet warehouse is also realised as a shuttle warehouse and relies on the StoreBiter® Omnipallet technology from GEBHARDT: The realised warehouse is directly connected to the goods receiving area as well as to the automated guided vehicle system (AGV) for supplying the production islands.

The Conclusion

The customer has received a highly dynamic, modular and largely redundant logistics system that fully meets the availability, capacity, dynamics and flexibility requirements. At the same time, the new plant demonstrates the latest SEW technology in operation, making it the perfect place to showcase the ideal interaction of in-house components in logistics.

For us as SEW, it was the economic criteria, the convincing overall concept, and the innovative products that tipped the scales in favour of GEBHARDT as a project partner.
