GEBHARDT GridSorter®
Sorter and Sequencer Rolled into One
The GEBHARDT GridSorter® was developed based on the GEBHARDT FlexConveyor, a modular, decentrally controlled conveyor system, which provides you with maximum flexibility in sorting your goods. The modular design and customisable control system open up new application scenarios. The order sequencing is a key advantage of the system.
The Concept
A plug&play sorter was developed as part of a collaborative project with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). It fulfils the requirements for ensuring easy commissioning and maximum flexibility with its modular design and decentralised control system. Unlike conventional sorters, the goods are not sorted by being ejected from a line or a ring. The GEBHARDT GridSorter® consists of an interconnected area of 90 degree transfer units. It therefore resembles a chessboard of conveyor modules. Each individual module can process data and independently make decisions.
Advantages at a Glance
- Significant Optimisation of Planning
- The layout and throughput can be easily modified to meet new requirements
- Automatic detection and compensation of faults
Application example of the GridSorter®
The GEBHARDT GridSorter® always offers an excellent ratio between throughput and space requirements. The individual modules feature different workloads depending on the layout, which can change dynamically during operation. Conveyance goods can be buffered in modules that are not used very much. The destinations can be close together in a small area and vary in quantity. This opens up new application scenarios to complement the traditional ones, where sorters have not yet been used. One example here includes sequencing and sorting as a connection between the automatic miniload warehouse (AS/RS) and picking workstations. The ability to buffer conveyance goods on the sorter can minimise the average access time and increase the continuity of the conveyor flow.
The GEBHARDT GridSorter® can be used as an alternative to conventional systems. This makes it possible to use it in e-commerce. The significantly lower space requirements and high availability provide considerable advantages. The plug-and-play capability of the FlexBox control system llows faulty modules to be replaced quickly.
